quads-cheeseLocated on the banks of Loch Laggan, in the spectacular Scottish Highlands, is the Ardverikie Estate, or “Glenbogle” to those of you that watched the hit BBC show “Monarch of the Glen!” It was this impressive landscapequad-sand that Fee, Jen and I were to explore from the back of a quad bike on a Highland Quad Bike Adventure.

We met our guide, Ian, at a pre-designated meeting spot; a small office on the main road in Kinloch Laggan which is clearly signposted on the approach. As the Adverikie Estate is only accessed by a private bridge, we were shuttled across to the activity centre in our guide’s Landrover. We meandered along the estate roads before reaching the newly renovated lodge where we were kitted out in overalls, wellies, a helmet and gloves.

Once suitably attired, Ian introduced us to our quad bikes; talking us through the controls and giving us a few hints and tips. Then, we slowly pulled out from the activity centre carquads-water park on to the smooth, tarmacked estate roads; where we were able to get a feel for our quads, allowing us to build our confidence and increase our speed before going off road…

Ardverikie Estate is HUGE! Over 40,000 acres of forest, moors and farmland; meaning there are ENDLESS trails to explore. We were given the opportunity to try all different types of terrain… driving through streams, going through muddy woodland tracks with steep inclines and dramatic slopes. We also got to zoom about on the beach at Loch Laggan (which is the largest freshwater beach in Britain!). At every new obstacle our guide stopped, allowing us to catch up and explain any techniques that we needed to be aware of to tackle the obstacle ahead. It was truly exhilarating exploring this varied, wild, landscape.

By the time we returned to the lodge, an hour later, we were all buzzing with adrenaline – my face actually hurt from smiling! Ardverikie is a magnificent highland estate and the perfect location for some quad biking fun.
