In the tranquil conservation village of Lasswade, overlooking the beautiful river Esk, is the stunning Paper Mill restaurant. The building was one of ten historic paper mills in the area that was famous for their production of fine papers until the closure of the last mill in 2004.
Opened in 2012, the interior design was conceived and developed by Jim Hamilton Design and the distinctive branding and signage designed by Edinburgh-based creative agency Touch. Together they have created a spectacular decor that is at once attractive and relaxing to sit and enjoy a meal in. The design is also in keeping with the village’s historical surroundings.
On arrival you’ll immediately be welcomed, before being seated and having the difficult choice of what to pick to eat! For starters there are dishes like the ‘Haggis, Neeps & Tatties Stack, Honey Mustard Cream & Crispy Carrot’ and the ‘Braised Pig Cheek Terrine, Caramelised Apple & Pomegranate Dressing’ amongst others.
Next treat yourself from a range of mains that may include a ’35 day-aged Scottish Steaks’, ‘Venison, Roast Garlic & Coriander Burger’ and ‘Gnocchi with Chestnut Mushrooms & Chargrilled Leeks’.
Finally indulge in a truly scrumptious dessert like ‘Sticky Toffee Pudding’ or ‘Dark Chocolate & Raspberry Panna Cotta’. If you don’t have a big sweet tooth there is a delectable ‘Scottish Cheeseboard’ to round off your meal.
On a warm, sunny evening there is also a spacious outdoor terrace that leads down to the riverbank to enjoy a glass or two of vino on! This is the perfect restaurant for an enjoyable and relaxing evening of fine dining.
